A stroll through Zurich's Christmas markets
Zurich's city centre is transformed into a Christmas fan's paradise during the Advent season. Zurich's Christmas markets are packed with delicious mulled wine or “Glühwein” as the locals call it, a wide range of culinary delights and lots of Christmas charm.
The oldest Christmas market in the city of Zurich winds its way through Niederdorf. From there, reach the largest Christmas market in Zurich : the "Wienachtsdorf" on Sechseläutenplatz. The ideal place to admire the products of local designers and producers with a mulled wine in hand or to enjoy the varied culinary delights.
Lucy makes Bahnhoftrasse sparkle
The Advent season in Zurich officially begins with the traditional switching on of "Lucy", the Christmas lights that magically illuminate Bahnhofstrasse with a twinkling starry sky. Directly behind Bahnhofstrasse, on Werdmühleplatz, you can listen to the "Singing Christmas Tree". A stage in the shape of a Christmas tree on which choirs from the region perform their best Christmas songs.
Christmas tree in a class of its own at the main station
Every year, the "Christkindlimarkt" takes place in the hall of Zurich's main railway station. The heart of the Christmas market is a Christmas tree over 10 metres high, decorated with Swarovski crystals. A few steps away, the "Illuminarium" transforms the inner courtyard of the National Museum with light displays into a world of illusion and music.
Christmas time for the whole family
The "Jelmoli Märlitram" is very popular with the youngest visitors to the city during Advent. Two angels read Christmas fairy tales to the children while the tram travels through the illuminated streets of Zurich. On Bürkliplatz, young and old alike can let their creativity run wild while making popular Christmas gifts.
